The long & short of it

Hello Readers!

It’s well and truly Summer as I sit here writing in 36 degree weather. I converted it into farenheit and ended up with 96.8 degrees. Yikes today is hot. As a jean addict with too many pairs (anyone up for a wardrobe tour soon?) the thought of exposing my pasty legs can be too much to bear some times but absolutely necessary with the heat.

I love high waisted denim shorts but haven’t seemed to find the right pair yet. I’ve searched every shop in Sydney and even abroad in America, but to no avail. With the temperatures skyrocketing I can’t rely on my trusty jeans, I haven’t found a pair of denim shorts so that leaves me with only one option. Cue the melodramatic music.

For those of you who are like me and your typical high waisted well fitted denim just does not seem to work I’ve found a tonne of options. I have a lot of friends who don’t like wearing denim shorts and only wear skirts and dresses, however that doesn’t always work out at the beach or hikes. So I’ve done the research and come up with some options.

Non – official denim shorts short list

Denim Inspired Shorts

I’m a huge fan of these shorts as they replace the need for tighter fitting, constrictive denim shorts. You can buy flippy denim shorts, elasticised waisted denim shorts and slightly baggier ones – so many options. Pair with a white floaty top and coloured sandals for the perfect summer holiday look.

Left: Glassons Denim Runner Shorts $39.99

Right: Supre The Bahamas Denim Short $40.00

Paperbag shorts

A little longer, these are a great alternative to skirts for birthday parties or formal events. Shaped baggier and often high waisted you can style them with singlets or crop tops and sandals.

Left: Forever New Jasmine Tie Front Short $69.99

Right: Lulu & Rose Eavis Tie Waist Shorts $69.95

Flippy fabric shorts

Great for the beach and hanging out with friends, flowy fabric shorts are cheaper and come in a million different patterns and colours. They are great for a pop of colour and incorporating interesting fabrics such as satin into your wardrobe.

Left: Glassons Linen Blend Frill Shorts $29.99

Right: Cotton On Sporty Short $14.95

A-line  shorts

Similar to the Paperbag shorts these are a great structured option instead of skirts or dresses. Thicker materials are great for winter and you can layer stockings underneath to keep warm. These shorts look amazing on everyone and gives you a great waist.
